9 LYRIC VIDEOS FOR VICETONE

In 2018, producer John Godfrey approached me to design a narrative lyric video for the Dutch EDM duo Vicetone. In keeping with the song’s theme of yearning for a reunion with a past love, I designed a concept about two geometrical shapes -a triangle and a square- that travel over wintry landscapes, edited to kaleidoscopic imagery of the terrain. This music video, for “Waiting,” became one of their favorite videos. Vicetone thereafter employed me to design and direct videos for them the following four years.

Altogether, I designed and directed 9 music videos for Vicetone. Vicetone had two unique requirements for their videos: that they themselves are not featured in their videos, and to have the lyrics of their songs as part of the visual design. These conditions also meant that the videos could be played live on screen during their tour and DJ events.

These videos varied drastically in design. Some, like “Home” and “Feels Like” required elaborate, custom procedural 3D simulations in Houdini. Others, like “Nothing But Love for You” and “Nostalgia,” utilized creative typography over pre-rendered animations. “Elevate” was a hybrid - I created the CG spiral mountain, and used creative typography over pre-rendered stock.
